Chromating, or chromate conversion as it is known, is a corrosion resistant conversion coating for aluminum and zinc parts. During the process, a thin, gel-like film is produced on the aluminum surface. Chromate is an excellent pre-treatment method for powder coat, paint and adhesives since it greatly enhances the products ability to form a bond with the aluminum. It is frequently used on electrical and electronic equipment housings because it provides increased corrosion resistance, while remaining electrically conductive.
Chromating of aluminum is an economical replacement for anodizing when abrasion resistance is not required. The finish colour ranges from gold to clear depending on your requirements.
